   DECEMBER:    On Christmas Day, December 25 of this year the Savannah and Albany Railroad Company is chartered by the state of Georgia; it intends to lay track to connect the cities of Savannah and Albany in Georgia.  (SOURCE:  See Wikipedia article, "Plant System" here:).

• (NO SPECIFIC DATE):   At some time during this year in the United States of America the state of New Hampshire enacts legislation calling for a ten-hour workday for female workers in that state.  (SOURCE:  Economics: Theory and Practice ((Second Edition))-Melville J. Ulmer, 1965, page 44).

• (NO SPECIFIC DATE):    Also at some time during this year the "Ten Hours Act" is enacted in England. It limits the labor of  women and of childen in all industrial establishments to ten hours a day, and to fifty-eight hours in any one week starting on May 1,1848. This will have the consequence of requiring men to also work no more than 10 hours a day, because much of their tasks are closely connected with what women and/or children also do. (SOURCE:  A History of the Modern World [Since 1815]-((Fourth Edition, Paperback))-R.
